George Carnall Community Hub continues to thrive

A health and wellbeing hub that is being run by the community is continuing to grow from strength to strength, with the ongoing support of Trafford Council.
Based in Davyhulme, the community run hub has become an important part of local life since Trafford Council handed over the running of the facility to the George Carnall Community Group (GCCG) through a Community Asset Transfer in 2021.
Since then, the local authority, working closely with the group, is delighted the centre is making a positive contribution to the community as well as supporting the Trafford Move initiative.
The centre continues to grow its gym membership while offering a wide range of events and activities that support the health and wellbeing of local residents. One recent success is the popular weekly parkrun, which attracts more than 300 participants each week, bringing the community together through physical activity.
More than just a gym, the centre also boasts:
A popular community café, opened in October 2021, which is for users and the wider community. It is run by users, residents and community groups.
A refurbished and fully operational gym and modernised fitness studio.
· Community events and activities, including local, regional, national and international events.
Health and wellbeing referral programmes, working with the Manchester University NHS Foundation (MFT) and Sale Sharks Foundation.
Inclusive support for skills and the economy agenda through volunteering and apprenticeships.
Targeted activity to local residents and the community such as pickle ball, female only provision and cricket.
Partnerships with local organisations, including volunteer opportunities with Away Day Care.
Cllr Eve Parker, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said: "Trafford Council is totally committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all of our residents through the Trafford Move initiative. This initiative seeks to encourage everyone across the borough to move every day and that certainly seems to be the case at the George Carnall Community Hub.
"We are delighted that George Carnall Community Group has done such a brilliant job at the centre and would like to say a big thank you and well done. There are so many groups and activities to choose from. We thoroughly enjoy working with the group and are more than happy to offer any advice and help along the way."
Kath Henshaw, Chair of George Carnall Community Group said: “We’re incredibly proud of what George Carnall Community Hub has achieved over the past five years. Despite challenges along the way, we’ve remained committed to our long-term vision, thanks to the dedication of the Community Group, management team and the support of Commercial Manager, Andy Brooks.
"Our focus remains on growing our membership, expanding activities and supporting health and wellbeing for all, in line with Trafford Council’s Trafford Move initiative.
“With our newly refurbished fitness studio, expanded class timetable and new membership opportunities, there’s never been a better time to get involved. Pop in and see what we have to offer.”
